PEDRA DA GAVEA HIKE IN RIO

Pedra da Gavea Hike in Rio

This is one of the most popular trails in Rio, the Pedra da Gavea hike, 842 meters high. Considered the largest seaside monolith in the world. One of the postcards of Rio de Janeiro. The view from the summit is incredible, with views of Rio’s famous beaches and mountains.

The hike follows a trail with some sections climbing over rocks and close to the summit there is a small section of rock climbing, around 40 meters, known as Carrasqueira. Don’t worry, as our guides always carry safety equipment so that you don’t take unnecessary risks. They know Pedra da Gávea like the back of their hand and will help you on this adventure. However, you should be fit and should have hiking practice.

The entire activity, climbing and descent, lasts an average of 6 to 8 hours depending on the size of the group and on their fitness level. If you don’t have all that time, you can do the Sugarloaf mountain hike, which is shorter.

Hiking Pedra da Gavea

The best time to start walking is in the morning, to avoid the strong sun and finish before the end of the day. If you are alone, no problem, we work with private guiding – you pick the day and we provide the guide, the equipment and insurance, just make a reservation via WhatsApp.

A tip: due to the large number of people hiking Pedra da Gávea on weekends, which can lead to long waits on the climbing section, both on the way up and on the way down, and risk to participants, we suggest scheduling this hike on a weekday. This way you can enjoy your trail and the mountain more peacefully and contemplate these landscapes only seen by the most adventurous.
